K9s 4 Kids

Comfort, Connection, and Canine Companionship
Sometimes, the simplest connection, a gentle nuzzle, a wagging tail, a moment of calm, can open a door to healing.
K9s 4 Kids is a unique volunteer-based program that brings certified therapy dogs into local group homes, emergency shelters, and the Juvenile Detention Facility. In these high-stress environments, youth are often navigating trauma, uncertainty, and isolation. Our trained canine companions offer something many of these young people haven’t experienced in a long time: unconditional comfort, love, and trust.
Why It Matters
Children and teens who have experienced trauma often struggle to build trust and form connections. The presence of a calm, friendly dog can create a safe space that feels comforting and nonjudgmental.
K9s 4 Kids gives these youth a chance to:
- Experience unconditional comfort and support
- Build trust through positive, low-pressure interaction
- Feel a sense of normalcy in an otherwise stressful environment
- Learn about empathy, boundaries, and responsible pet care
- Connect emotionally in ways that may not be possible with people
Volunteers often witness powerful transformations, as children open up, smile, and begin to heal through the simple presence of a dog.
