Become a Voice for a Child in Crisis

At CASA of Placer, Yuba, and Sutter, our Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) stand up for children who have experienced abuse, neglect, abandonment, or are at risk of entering the foster care system. These youth often face instability and uncertainty, and without a dedicated advocate, they can become lost in the Juvenile Dependency or Delinquency Court systems.

That’s where CASA volunteers come in.

What does CASA do?

A judge appoints CASA volunteers to serve as the “eyes and ears of the court and the voice of the child.” They get to know the child and everyone involved in their life—caregivers, social workers, teachers, and attorneys—so they can make informed recommendations in the child’s best interest. CASAs advocate by facilitating services, investigating concerns, and monitoring the child’s well-being.

Each CASA stays with their assigned youth for the duration of the case, offering consistency, stability, and compassion, often being the one constant adult in that child’s life.

Why It Matters

Children with a consistent, caring adult are more likely to succeed in school, build healthy relationships, and envision a brighter future.

Research shows that youth with a CASA are more likely to:

Stay on track to graduate high school

Receive vital services in a timely manner

Higher permanency rates

Build long-term connections with loved ones

Stay out of the child welfare system

Report having higher levels of hope
